Formerly the Wickford Diner, this just-opened restaurant serves really tasty Italian dishes, nicely presented plates, and good service. We sat at the bar last night, tried the calamari appetizer - just crispy enough, a decent portion cooked perfectly to our liking. We then had pasta dishes, one creamy with peas and prosciutto, the other was lighter - clear broth, clams and arrugala. Both were extremely unusual and very delicious. Since we live locally and the menu fits on one page, we're likely to eventually try everything on it! Will definitely be back, and soon.

Thrilled about this new addition to Wickford Villiage, right in the old Wickford Diner building. Beautiful preparations of fresh and local ingredients into food that could have been served at an Osteria in the Campania. Its a decent sized departure from the traditional Rhode Island styled Italian I've become accustomed to. And a welcome one at that. Even with a dish we're incredibly familiar with, baked Chicken Parmesan, the fresh herbs, the light touch with the sauce, the small and sweet freshness of a young chicken breast. This food is elevated to a standard so much more than common. A taste of the New York Sirloin proved similar. Take rather simple fare, use top quality ingredients, cook it incredibly well, garnish with an herbed butter, served with some beautiful sauteed local vegetables and perfectly roasted fingerling potatoes, have a stellar result. If you couldn't tell, Tate's made a great first impression on me. I'll be headed back to try a bit more of this kitchen, very, very soon.

What a great find. Wonderful addition to this beautiful New England town. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming and the food was amazing. Best crab cakes I've ever eaten; was tempted to ask for seconds. I wish we lived closer. I know we'd be regulars.

Wickford was in need of a place like this. !!! Karen the owner creates a friendly open environment ... It's as if you truly walked into her kitchen!!! She's makes everyone that walks in feel special. Not only is the service amazing the food is fantastic. Swordfish was a very generous portion and cooked perfectly. We are grateful to welcome Tate's to Wickford. Where have you been:)))

Brand new addition to the local SOCO restaurant scene, and a very good one at that! Dined here with my wife the other night and we were very impressed with the skill and quality of the chef and the food. Service was a little frantic at times, no doubt due to the place being open for only a few days, but this was not a big deal at all. The standout dish was the homemade pasta with pork ragu. Tender, perfectly cooked pork and excellent sauce over fresh pasta - I will go back just for more of this! Also, the bread is housemade and fantastic.

Welcome to Rhode Island, Tate's! My family is familiar with the twice-acclaimed by the NY Times Long Island restaurant that was the former location for these owners. How lucky we are that they brought their talents to lovely Wickford, RI. House made everything. The bread, the fresh mozzarella, the pastas...ahhh. It is a gem that took over the former Wickford Diner space. We had the cavatelli with truffle and it was transcendent. I would put the chicken parm up against any in Providence or NYC. The portion sizes are just right. Some reviews have complained about the prices, and maybe they are higher than you'd find in an Italian restaurant attached to a pizzeria...but this is fine dining in a casual setting. The freshest possible local ingredients, creative and delicious sauces...ahhhhh. We will be going back often.

Went on a hot July day during the Wickford Art festival, it was their first day and they opened with a limited menu. This is the site of the old Wickford Diner, the new owners freshened it up. We hope to go back for dinner.

This was a great surprise, I was not expecting such great food in the old converted Wickford Dinner, and in Wickford in general. Definite European flair, with appetizer of beets and goat cheese, pasta with truffle oil and meatballs like my grandmother made. A must, and now when I visit family, I know where I can get quality Italian food without having to drive all the way to the hill.

excellent food. the eggplant parm was the best i've had in ages, the marina was delicious, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. the homemade mozzarella was fabulous, as was the focaccia. the service was excellent, and everyone was very friendly. a little pricey, but worth it considering the quality.

This place has potential, but definitely some kinks to be worked out. Firstly, when you walk in its a bit awkward, there's no hostess stand and you literally walk right into the center of the dining area. They were pretty good at greeting/seating us...but still it's a bit odd. Secondly, other than the sign outside and the menu, this place has no Italian feel to it..the decor is more 'beach house', the kind of generic stuff you find at Tj maxx. It's far from inspired...and honestly a little confusing. The menu is small, and they weren't advertising any specials, but everything we tried was good. The servings are decent, but could be larger for the pricing. The iced tea was strangely very cloudy, not sure what that was about. Service was just okay. The women's restroom was poorly kept, which is never appealing when you're at a nice restaurant...if a place can't keep their bathrooms clean you have to wonder how clean the kitchen is. Lastly, this place is uber noisy. They need to integrate some sound absorbing decor/design elements to remedy this situation. Overall it was a decent experience, but this place could go either way...I'm not sure that we'll give this place another chance..the food didn't leave me craving more and there are just a few too many neutrals and negatives.

My wife and I visited this place about two weeks ago and it's fantastic! The new owner is very set on pleasing the customer. Service was great and the food was some of the best I've had in the area. I hope more people give this place a chance and keep them in business because we would love to go back.

Wife and i had dinner this evening. What was a diner is now a want to be upscale Italian restaurant . Some good..some bad. eggplant parm was very good .My linguine was spaghetti and very salty. My wife had a chicken dish topped by arugala cherry tomatos ect and loved it. Bottle of wine went well. Place just opened so expected some growing pains. No a/c, bare table tops, and waitstaff in short shorts . not professional, Not upscale ! But will try again in a month or so .Want to see them succeed .All easy fixes. Also a larger portion wouldn't hurt.

4 stars for something different in Wickford and a good meal. Some unique choices on menu. Small, no reservations, limited menu but thats ok as long as it's done well and it was. Service was a bit awkward and inexperienced but sure to get better. Plating not so attractive in my estimation but I'm being picky. Limited bar. Still worth it and hope it lasts a long time. We need more like this in NK.

Came here for dinner the other night. Started with the Caesar salad and roasted beet salad. Both very good. The pistachio vinaigrette was amazing! We had the oreccheitte and the pork shoulder. Again, both very good. This is a new restaurant in town but they'll be around a long time. Food is great, prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and outgoing. Make sure you say hello to Jack and Karen!!

If you are looking for amazing Italian food this is the place. Everything is fresh and made to order. The wait staff is kind and courteous . Hands down the best Italian restaurant that I've been to in awhile.

Tate's just opened a couple weeks ago in the old Wickford Diner. They managed to replace a bit of the diner kitsch with a bit of the family restaurant kitsch, but the table ware was all Wickford Diner, heavy diner plates and mismatched flatware. Minus the napkin dispensers and booths, fortunately. The wait staff was attentive and clearly trying hard, but just not broken in yet. The appetizers (we had the meatballs) came quickly, but the entrees took quite a bit longer than I would have expected. The food was extremely salty, almost to the point of sending it back. The place has potential and I really hope these guys get it right. It's definitely worth another try, but I don't think I'l be a regular unless they can figure out how to fire on all cylinders and make me feel less like a deer enjoying a salt lick.

We had here twice and both times the food was excellent. I found the portions to be too small. It would not hurt their profit margins to increase the amount of pasta served.

Great! Loved our waitress- an unpretentious Block Islander. Wine list- good array of Italian options- priced fairly. Foccacia with olive oil- just right. Meatballs and sauce- among the best. Crab cakes with lots of meat- argula with tasty remoulade. Calamari was perfect. Our favorite was the roasted beet salad with pistachio vinaigrette- accompanied by a deep fried goat cheese puff. Pasta with clams in a red sauce- excellent. Didn't even think of adding Parmesan. Finished with an Italian caramel/chocolate/cream pudding.Yum!

A diner style atmosphere passing itself off as a fancy Italian restaurant with a really small and snobby menu. I wouldn't really care about that if the prices were adjusted accordingly, but they are WAY too expensive. Especially for what you get. I was so put off by the prices that I just chose the calamari appetizer for $12.. From what I could see of the other dishes, the servings were small. Make that way too small for the steep price they were asking. And their touting everything being made from scratch does not make up for what you get in my opinion. I have had much better for much cheaper in RI jading on what I got. I suppose there are some that are just going to be so thrilled to see something open in their precious Wickford that they won't mind the highway robbery, But as for me, unless they expand the menu and lower the prices, forget it...Much better Italian places close by that won't break you...Really disappointing..

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
